Erot
Tamar Mor Sela, Adi Arbel
Three years after its publication – following weeks at the top of the bestseller lists, unprecedented public discourse, and over 50,000 copies sold, the book Erot (Awaken) is being adapted into a television series. Author Tamar Mor Sela has joined forces with director Adi Arbel to create a new documentary series for HOT8, in which women speak openly, candidly, and in front of the camera about their complex and painful sexual experiences – their desires, embarrassments, loves, and dreams.
The series is divided into four episodes. In the first, young women in their 20s and 30s speak; in the second, women aged 40–60; and in the third, women aged 60–80. The fourth episode is dedicated to couples who speak openly about their sex lives – both heterosexual and lesbian. Sexuality at different stages of life. Beliefs and taboos that shaped women are questioned and reexamined. Different kinds of orgasms. Sexual traumas and their aftermath – but also new discoveries and a great deal of hope. This is a rare and groundbreaking glimpse, the first of its kind on television, into the hidden sexual lives of women.
At its core, this series is a call for freedom, freedom in general, and sexual freedom in particular. In a culture that has long alienated women from their own bodies, courageous women come forward to reclaim ownership of their bodies, their minds, and their right to be sexual beings. Their right to pleasure. They say: I’m allowed. This is how I want it. This is what feels good. This is what feels right.
