La’Isha – the story of a women’s magazine

Since 1947, “La’Isha” has been Israel’s most successful women’s weekly. The film examines the close relationship between the magazine and its readers from its early decades, when it was shaped by male editors and events like the Miss Israel pageant, to its role in bringing silenced women’s issues into the public agenda. The magazine operated in a constant tension between commercial demands and a desire to promote social change, while providing women across the country with “a room of their own”. Through interviews with legendary figures from the publication, readers’ letters, and rare archival materials, the film reveals a kind of “female tribal bonfire” and tells the story of women’s status in Israel.
