Modesty

Mordechai Vardi, Raaya Vardi Teboulle

The control over sexuality is the basis of Orthodox morality, which states that an intimate relationship between a man and a woman will only exist within the framework of a wedding. Halacha has built a set of laws that will prevent the possibility of sexual activity outside of marriage. For example, prohibitions on: masturbation, touching, women’s singing, modesty in women’s clothing, etc. Considering what is happening in modern-orthodox society, it becomes clear that a gap has been created between the law and reality. The directors, father and daughter, set out to examine the conflict in its various aspects, and to put up a sharp mirror in front of the religious society they come from, with the aim of breaking through the taboo on the discourse of sexuality, looking for an appropriate language, and reducing feelings of guilt, confusion, embarrassment, and internal contradictions. And for the first time after 30 years together, they open a conversation between them that has never existed before.
